If we gave you three wishes – what would you wish for? Maybe more time each week?  Early retirement? Or, how about a boat?

At Vita Nova we ask youth to make three wishes; and surprisingly, they all ask for the same thing, “a place to call home.”  That’s because many of the youth we serve are homeless, or one paycheck away from homelessness with no family to turn to for help.

Most people think of homeless youth as runaways, but the reality is there are many reasons why they end up on the streets.  The truth of the matter is that many of these youth after turning 18 were no longer welcome to stay with their foster family, were kicked out of their family homes for being LGBTQ, or could not endure physical or sexual abuse any longer at home and chose to leave. You may happen by them and never notice, but our economy notices them every day. 

There is an economic cost to youth homelessness that adds up per person per year. Estimates range between $35,000 - $50,000 in costs related to healthcare, law enforcement, education, social services, substance abuse and mental health program expenses.

What if we told you it only costs Vita Nova $16,000 per youth per year to help these youth? This investment allows us to help youth re-enter school, the workforce, and become contributing citizens of the community with a positive supportive network.

Due to the pandemic we have lost necessary funds critical to house and help these youth. These funds help us create “A Road To Home” for youth facing homelessness. You can help us meet our goal of $90,000 during the month of June by funding a youth to get housing support for an entire year at $16,000, for a month at $1,300, or a day at $44.  Help us make a difference for these youth, and make their only wish a reality.
